THIRD DAY OF THE MEETING OF THE PARTNER SCHOOL TEACHERS AT KOLYMVARI IN GREECE - 9 SEPTEMBER 2018

By bus we headed to the province of Apokoronas. We first visited the village of Vrysses, with its characteristic is the running waters, and we tasted the traditional Sfakianes pies and the so-called Greek coffee next to the river.

Next stop was the historic monastery in Arkadi. The monastery is a symbol of the Greeks struggle for freedom, as there, during the Revolution of 1866 against the Turks, after the Greeks had gathered and battled, surrounded by the Turks, and in order not to fall into the hands of the enemy, they were blown up in the dustbin of the monastery.

After Arkadi we visited the museum of Eleftherna, one of the first museums of archaeological sites in Crete. It was created to house the results of the excavations that have been taking place for thirty years in the ancient city of Eleftherna, one of the most important ancient cities of Crete.

Later we came to one of the most picturesque cities in Crete, Rethymno, which is the seat of many university schools in the country. We walked in the alleys of the old town, in the Venetian harbor and tasted the local cuisine.

Returning back to the city of Chania, we climbed the hill of Prophet Elias, where the tombs of Eleftherios Venizelos are, one of the most important prime ministers of Greece in the early years of the independence of the state and his son. There we had a panoramic view of the entire city at sunset.
